When Ben was 25, he said yes to Michael which let the archangel take over his body to destroy Lucifer. In doing this, Michael burned out his vessel and remade Ben a new body. However, because of the need for use in the future, Michael added a few things that Ben is unaware of until they make themselves known. It will become a generational status starting with this first generation of 5 apostles and pass on to the eldest living heir only at the time of the apostle/host's death.

Health Enhancements: The body of an apostle is immune to any diseases known on Earth. They are able to heal fast from injuries. Drugs burn through their system quickly. Often, hosts will feel overwhelmed at the "pureness" of their body to the point where they will feel the need to do things to dull the feeling (drugs, etc). If their system is dulled or dampened by a supernatural method they are unable to heal at the enhanced rate and only at a rate that the dampening allows.
Tattoo 1: The tattoo on his chest is a Triskele. This is a symbol of his station as an apostle to the new world. There are five members of this group - one on each continent (sans Antarctica; Europe & east Asia together, West Asia and Australia together). It is a tracking system to be able to allow angels to find him at any time, any where.

The rest of the powers are only able to activate on a host who has been baptized. The symbol appears the moment the previous heir dies no matter if they are baptized or not.

Tattoo 2: An apostle who has been a host of their angel may show signs of a secondary tattoo over time forming on their back depending on how strong their tie is to their angel and how often the below powers are used. Ben's will eventually look like this. There is a secondary way for this tattoo to develop - see "Angel Warrior"
Angel Alarm: This is what Ben calls the known function of the tattoo. When he is in danger (based off his fear and adrenaline levels), the tattoo will start to glow a yellow light. It is emitting a signal on the celestial plane aimed at angels to warn them that one of the apostles are in danger and need to be saved. The angel will be able to trace the signal back to the apostle in danger. It will stay on until the host calms back down. If the host passes out, it will continue to glow until the host wakes up and recognizes himself being in a safe place.
Angel Barrier: If the host is in immediate danger from a supernatural threat and he is to a point of near death, the tattoo will expand a shield of pure energy around the host. Any creature that would take damage from celestial energy would take it from this. Any other creature would feel as if the space around him has suddenly turned extremely hot to the point of burning if they don't move away from him immediately. If they are able to see through the blinding yellow light, they would see that the host's skin if giving off the glow. The host will feel as if they are being surrounded by warm, protective energy. This will last until the host feels he is no longer in immediate danger, passes out, or dies.
Angel Warrior: There are times in which the hosts as a team may feel they need to handle a problem that their angels do not or cannot interfere with. In this manner, they are able to transfer their power to the host that is Michael's vessel only. All five hosts must be present for this power to happen. The influx of power will temporarily grant the Michael host the abilities of an angel born including being able to bless, banish, fly, and call upon the elements. This is a life altering effect and would grant the host the ability to fight another angel which is why the hosts were split after the Michael/Lucifer battle for their protection. This will cause the Michael host's body to instantly purify itself of all toxins, tap into the celestial plane for communications, and will cause wings to sprout from the host's back to grant them flight. The host will also lose touch of their human side including their ability to process emotions. The other hosts will lose all their protection abilities except for their enhanced healing while the Michael host has their power as he is supposed to be their protector.

The danger with this mode is that once the host has become a warrior, the host will not want to revert back because of the power and lack of emotions. In order to do this, the other four hosts will need to cut off the wings of the host. This will cause the Michael host to revert back to his normal state, the wings will fade into the full tattoo on his back, and he will not be able to revert to this mode for the rest of his lifetime. He will instantly be reconnected to his emotions and will have to reconcile what he did in the warrior mode with himself as he will retain full memory of his actions. This can cause severe trauma to the Michael host.
