Father and Son Day!

Ben was excited to have a football game on the day after Christmas. Lisa and Dean decided to split up, and while Dean went to watch Ben play his game, she took Alec off to the malls to look at the after holiday sales.

He was really excited because Dad was there just to see him, and he wasn't distracted by Alec or Mom, and so he did his best to show off a bit since he was in the first team. He might be one of the smaller kids on the team, but he was a great tackler because he could sneak around and under people to get at their legs.

After one strong tackle, Ben got up and and looked over at his father, grinning proudly.

Dean grinned back at him, before settling back into the bleachers and watching his kid play. He actually didn't make it to a lot of games, given his hours at the garage, but when he had the opportunity to go to a game and spend the time with his kids, he wouldn't pass it up.

The game had been good so far, and he just settled in with the rest of the parents, talking a bit to the couple he knew, and just watching the kids as they had a chance to play.

He was only on defense, so Ben wouldn't be one who made a game winning goal. But he was good at keeping the other team from getting the goals to help his team win anyway.

When the game was done, Ben grabbed his helmet and ran over to the bleachers, grinning. "You see that last tackle, Dad? I totally won that game."

"Hell yeah you did," Dean said, holding up his hand as he got closer. "Great job, kiddo."

"If we make the playoffs, would you take time off from work to come see the games? We always win when you're here," Ben sat next to his father, holding onto his helmet tightly.

"I'll see what I can do, Ben, but it depends when the games are. Some things I can't get out of." Which sucked, but there wasn't anything Dean could do about it.

"Maybe you could give the coach your schedule. I know some of the moms do at the beginning of the season." Ben pointed at a few of the upper class mothers. "Coach isn't happy but he does it."

He hesitated as he looked over, before shrugging. "I'll see, buddy. I know you want me to see you play, but I don't think I get a say that way."

Ben thought a moment, then shrugged. "Then I guess we can get Mom to tape them for you."

"That would be awesome," he said with a grin. "But don't count me out yet. I can be creative when I want to be."

"Ok."

He thought a moment, then looked at his Dad. "You think Mom and Alec are back yet?" He really didn't want to lose spending time with his father on his own.

"Probably not. Malls are probably crazy today."

"So can we go do something? Just the two of us?"

"Sure we can," he said with a grin. "What'd you have in mind?"

Ben thought for a moment, then looked at his father. "Hot dogs and then the arcade?"

He considered that for a moment, before nodding. "Works for me."

"Awesome." Ben jumped up, holding onto his helmet.

Dean gave him a bit of a grin, placing a hand on top of his son's head as he lead the way out.

"And since Mom's not here we can get the chili dogs with extra onions, right?"

"Oh, I don't know about those onions. They'll give us away in a heartbeat."

"But by then we'll have had them and she can't take them back!"

He laughed. "Yeah, but even if she can't take them back, she'll yell anyway."

"Mom yells way too much. Maybe we can find a way to get her to stop."
